But with that success came a $9,000 debt he's carried around ever since, even through subsequent electiions when he ran unopposed.

His story isn't that unusual for people who take the enormous step of running for public office.

Suspense rises for sheriff candidates who predicted runoff

It will be at least Tuesday before Sheriff's Cmdr. Jim Anderson knows for sure whether he is the new sheriff or whether he faces a runoff election in November.
