ap water quality around here is as good as it's ever been.
But a funny aftertaste and vague paranoia about contaminants have more people than ever buying bottled water that tastes better but may not necessarily be healthier or safer.
Like the family who pays property taxes toward public education but then shells out thousands for private school, some people are so attached to the transparent plastic teat they're willing to pay twice for drinking water.
It's the same story everywhere.
Americans spent $9.8 billion on 7.5 billion gallons of bottled water in 2005, and according to industry reports, their fixation doesn't appear to be waning.
