IN BRIEF : Man pleads no contest to attempted murder

SANTA BARBARA An 84-year-old Carpinteria man accused of trying to pipe car exhaust into his home in an attempt to kill himself and his 85-year-old Alzheimer's-afflicted wife Betty has pleaded no contest to attempted murder charges.
