57 of Mazatl n, Sinaloa, México passed away on February 23, 2013. The funeral service will be held at 6:00p.m. February 28,2013, at Welch- Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel, 15 E. Sola St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101. Visitation will be held from 4-8p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Summerland beach.
David was born in Mazatl n, Sinaloa, México on December 29, 1955. He loved to learn and travel. He received a PhD in History of Folklore Dance and shared his knowledge in many publications including "Danzas de México [Dances of Mexico]" (in Spanish), Instituto Cultural "Ra'ces Mexicanas," retrieved May 23, 2012. He enjoyed Mexican heritage folk dance and music. He believed that that folklore was the wisdom of the town.
David was owner and CEO of Mi Casa magazine, and he worked as a professor at UCSB and other higher educational institutions. He was dancer and musician at heart. He taught folklore dance and music for many years. He enjoyed talking on the telephone to all his relatives near and far and was always taking pictures to capture a moment in history.
David is survived by his mother Hildelisa Bribiesca Soto, his brothers Mario Rojas Sr., Mario Rojas, Jr, Tracy Rojas, Daniel Rojas, his sisters Cecilia Rojas, Dolores H. Rodriguez, Angela Rojas, Kecha Rojas. He is survived by his sons David Rojas, Kyle Rojas, and youngest son Oswaldo Rojas and his daughters Monique Rojas, Lizzy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends that will miss him very much.
David is preceded in death by his father and best friend Mario Rojas-Castillo who passed away on July 20, 2012.
