Julio passed away peacefully at home on July 9th, 2013. He was born in Santa Barbara on July 3,1917. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, as well as four nieces and nephews, a step-daughter and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Manuela Garcia, as well as his brother Alfonso.
Julio attended Montecito Union School, Santa Barbara Junior High and Santa Barbara High School. He proudly enlisted in the US Navy and served during WW II, then returned to Santa Barbara and worked for many years in construction as a Lather. Julio truly loved to hunt and fish and spent many weekends hunting near Figueroa Mountain and also fishing the Santa Ynez River, driving his 1942 Willy's Jeep for many years all over the back country. Julio could also be seen riding his Harley 80 and his Indian motorcycles. He was the life of the party, but he always went to work and stayed active and youthful.
Julio also was a foster parent in the child welfare system. He volunteered his construction skills at the Eastside and Westside Boy's Clubs. He was also skilled at riding horses and he had a true affinity for dogs. He also had a gift in the garden and his fruit trees were always filled with fruit.
A Celebration of Life will take place at The Moose Home, 110 W.Victoria St., on October Sth. Donations in his memory to Moose Charities Baby Village may be made at the memorial or sent to Moose Charities, Mooseheart, Illinois 60539.
