STEVENSON, Harold Davies

Passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2013 at the age of 94. He is survived by his wife Sue, his four children, James (Lory), Janet Giles (Jeff), Gary (Tody) and Julie Monser (Bill), four grand children and five great grandchildren.
Harold was born on November 13, 1918 in Man- hattan, Kansas. Raised in Kansas and Missouri, he graduated from high school and then received a vocational certificate in printing from Lathrop Polytechnic Institute before enlisting in the Army in 1944. After his military service he took a position with the New York Times. From New York he moved back to Kansas City, Mo. where he went to work for the Kansas City Star. In 1948 he moved to the West Coast to work for the Salinas Californian. While there he developed an interest in photography which took him to Santa Barbara's Brooks Institute of Photography where he received a degree in Portraiture. With this degree he embarked on a new career and opened Franklin Studio on State Street and Campus Photo of UC Santa Barbara. After a number of successful years in that business he returned to his newspaper roots and went to work for the Santa Barbara News Press as a linotype operator, retiring in 1987 as the composing room foreman.
He will be forever remembered for his quick wit, marvelous sense of humor and warm, welcoming manner.
