85,of Palm Beach Gardens and Montecito, CA passed away on September 13, 2013. Carter was the son of the late Julian Van Cleef and Ruth Hutchison Nevius. He grew up in Westfield, NJ, served in the US Marine Corps and graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. He spent most of his adult life in Redding, CT where he owned Custom Packaging Specialties, Inc. He is a current member of The Holland Society and the Palm Beach Yacht Club and had been a long-time member of the Saugutuck Harbor Yacht Club in Norwalk, CT. He and Patricia moved to Florida in 1997 where he enjoyed sailing, fishing and travelling - especially their yearly trips to Anguilla, BWI. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved companion of 26 years, Patricia Milne Anderson, daughters; Ann Nevius (Thomas Smith) of Carlisle, MA and Mary Nevius (Kevin Arthur) of Baltimore, MD and sister, Jean Hart of Skillman, NJ. A celebration of Carter's life will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 S. Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL. A military honors burial will take place on October 5, 2013 at Cedar Hill Cemetery in East Millstone, NJ.
