Anita passed away on October 15, 2013, in Danvers, MA, following a brave battle with cancer. She later went to New York and became a registered nurse, working at Columbia University Hospital. She returned to California's central coast where she worked for eye surgeons in the private sector. Anita had a genuinely engaging personality, which attracted many loyal and lasting friends. She will be remembered for her kindness and compassion towards others. "Tita" was the primary caregiver for both her parents in their elderly years. She was a devoted wife, mother of two, and grandmother of three. She was predeceased by her sister Margarita, her parents Pablo and Sarah Elizabeth Avila, and her first husband Don Frank. She is survived by four sisters, four brothers, son-in-law Derrick Lin, daughter Liz Lin, son Andrew Frank, grandchildren: Mia, Ethan, and Julia, and her former husband George Keefe. After a private burial service, a potluck reception is planned for friends and family at Goleta Beach Park on November 22, at 2:00 PM.
