76, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in Emeryville, California after an extended illness, four months after the loss of her husband, Fred Fajen. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. The daughter of Perry and Alice Paschall, Sue was born October 26, 1937 in Norman, Oklahoma, and grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. Sue graduated from Arlington Heights High School as a member of the class of 1955. She later studied at the University of Oklahoma, where she completed a Bachelor's degree in teaching and also met her husband Fred. Sue was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Later in her adulthood she earned a Master of Psychology degree at the Fielding Institute of Santa Barbara.

Sue and Fred were married in May of 1960. They spent the early years of their marriage in Oklahoma and New Mexico. In 1970 they moved to Santa Barbara, CA. After being a stay at home mom of four children, she had a successful career as a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist (MFCC) for 20 years until retiring in 2003.

After 33 years in Santa Barbara, Sue and Fred moved to Grass Valley, California in 2003 to live closer to their adult children and grandchildren. In December of 2012, she and Fred moved into an assisted living facility in Emeryville, California.

Sue spent time involved in organizations such as The American Association of University Women (AAUW), National Charity League (NCL), Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Newcomers of Grass Valley. She contributed to two books for teenagers through the Girls Club: "Choices" and "Challenges," teen life planning journals. Sue and Fred co-founded the Santa Barbara chapter of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) in the 1990's. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Santa Barbara and of the Unity in the Gold Country Spiritual Center in Grass Valley. Additionally, Sue was the founder of the local chapter of LALAs, an organization dedicated to laughter and friendship. Sue especially loved spending time with her dear friends and family. She will always be remembered for her amazing sense of humor, practical jokes and her contagious laughter.

Sue is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Patsy and Earle Haley; her four children and their families: Mike and Adrienne; Ben and Robert; Joe and Laura; Suzanne and Michael; along with her seven grandchildren: Drew and Tiffany, Elise, Hannah, Nathan, Kevin and Jayden. Her niece and nephew and their families also survive Sue: Gayle and Donna; Blake and Margot, and their three children Kathleen, Ross and Mark.

Three memorial services are being planned for Sue. The first one will be in Emeryville, CA at 4:30pm on Wednesday, November 13th at the Bayside Park Assisted Living Facility. The second service will be in Grass Valley, CA at 12:00 noon on Sunday, December 8th at Unity in the Gold Country Spiritual Center, to honor the lives of both Sue and Fred. A third service will be in Santa Barbara, CA at 10am on Saturday, January 4th at the First Congregational Church of Santa Barbara.
