Sue and Fred were married in May of 1960. They spent the early years of their marriage in Oklahoma and New Mexico. In 1970 they moved to Santa Barbara, CA. After 33 years in Santa Barbara, Sue and Fred moved to Grass Valley, California in 2003 to live closer to their adult children and grandchildren. In December of 2012, she and Fred moved into an assisted living facility in Emeryville, California.

Sue spent time involved in organizations such as The American Association of University Women (AAUW), National Charity League (NCL), Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Newcomers of Grass Valley. She contributed to two books for teenagers through the Girls Club: "Choices" and "Challenges," teen life planning journals. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Santa Barbara and of the Unity in the Gold Country Spiritual Center in Grass Valley. Additionally, Sue was the founder of the local chapter of LALAs, an organization dedicated to laughter and friendship. Sue especially loved spending time with her dear friends and family. She will always be remembered for her amazing sense of humor, practical jokes and her contagious laughter.

Sue is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Patsy and Earle Haley; her four children and their families: Mike and Adrienne; Ben and Robert; Joe and Laura; Suzanne and Michael; along with her seven grandchildren: Drew and Tiffany, Elise, Hannah, Nathan, Kevin and Jayden.
