PALKOWSKI, Eugene Dude

A longtime resident of Montecito, Eugene Palkowski, well known as Dude, died of pancreatic cancer Oct. 27 in Santa Rosa, Calif., where he has lived since his marriage in 1988 to Betty Fox Palkowski. He was 89 years old.
Born and raised in Chicago, Ill., he served in the Navy and moved to Santa Barbara in the 1950s.
Dude, who was tall, lanky and soft-spoken, enjoyed hunting with his black Lab, camping, hiking, deep sea and fly fishing, golf, dominoes, traveling with his wife and friends in the United States and abroad, reading and conversation relating to special interests and current events, family gatherings and winters at his home on Humphrey Road in Montecito, where he and Betty walked daily on the beach nearby with Magic, their black Lab.
Survivors are his stepchildren: Jeff (Jeannie) Fox of Granite Bay; Laurie (Mike) Morris of Napa and Marilyn Fox of Orangevale; step grandchildren Tim, Brian, Lindsey and Courtney; and step great-grandchildren Broden, Beckett and Malana, all in northern California.
Dude was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Fox Palkowski, in April 2011.
