On November 23, 2013 David D. Shurtleff passed away peacefully after a long illness. He was an avid outdoorsman who as a kid loved fly fishing with his parents. David enjoyed skiing and loved hiking and back packing in the Sierras. His ashes will be taken to the mountains he so loved.
David was an accomplished photographer and imparted his love of photography to others: "did you take a picture", he would invariably ask.
David was born in Chanute, Kansas on 8-18-41. His family moved and eventually settled in Santa Barbara in 1955. He went to high school at SB High, received his BA in sociology from UCSB and his MA from Fresno State University. He was a probation officer with the County of Santa Barbara and later worked at Cottage Hospital for 32 years.
David is remembered as a kind and loving man and husband. He is survived by his wife and life companion of 25 years Hetty, son David Gregory and step children Barbara, Monique, Robin, Tania and Cherie. He will live forever in our hearts.
Services will be held on Wednesday, December 4 at 11:30 a.m. at Welch-Ryce-Haider Mortuary, 15 East Sola Street, Santa Barbara.
