Joshua Tree, 1951" is a beautiful black and white film by Matthew Mishory that imagines James Dean (James Preston) on the cusp of fame. The film also deals with his relationships with roommate/lover William Bast (Dan Glenn) and with mentor Rogers Brackett (Edward Singletary). Mr. Mishory's first film is more of a mood piece than the standard biopic and every frame looks like a photograph, earning the director comparisons to early Todd Haynes. More»
