ELECTION DAY
Today is the day for voters to decide if they want to recall Gov.
Gray Davis. County polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Here are the latest tidbits:
DICTATOR.COM: On the campaign's final day, a search
of Google.com revealed 2,330 media references to Adolf Hitler, with
the majority related to California recall coverage. From the Straits
Times of Singapore to the Scotsman in the United Kingdom, the references
chronicle Mr. Schwarzenegger's denials that he ever expressed admiration
for how Hitler rose to power.
SWEEPING GESTURE: If California's recall drama
spun off an awards show, the pro-recall movement would win for best
use of props. Schwarzenegger supporters turned out Sunday at the
Capitol with brooms to sweep Mr. Davis and his administration out
of office. On Monday, recall supporters turned up in moving vans
driven by recall organizers, including Republican strategist Sal
Russo and recall founder Ted Costa. They called it "Moving
Day for Gray."
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I guess it's fun during
the campaign, but it's going to be a grind once they get in there.
It's a miserable job that everyone wants." -- Bob Stern, head
of the nonpartisan Center for Governmental Studies in Santa Monica,
on being governor of California.
