Open your heart : Local matchmaker to host Lock and Key Singles Party

Guys, it may never be this easy to unlock your true love's heart. Men will hold the keys — literally — at an upcoming event where the women will wear locks around their necks. It's all part of the third Lock and Key Singles Party noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, 3300 Via Real, Carpinteria. The fee, $22 in advance and $32 at the door, includes a drink, appetizers, valet parking and viewing of that day's two polo matches. The goal is to find a mate that fits. More»

OUT & ABOUT: Stein joins trails board

Michael Stein has been named a board member of the Montecito Trails Foundation, where he will serve as the new administrative adviser. An avid hiker, Mr. Stein is a principal at CFO Consulting LLC and has held executive positions at Ty Warner Hotels and Resorts, Miramar Systems and Alert Cellular. He has served on the Sansum Foundation board of trustees, Hospice of Santa Barbara Foundation board, and the Girls Inc. Audit Committee. More»


"De la Tierra: Art of the Adobe" is on view through Oct. 6 at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, 136 E. De la Guerra St. The exhibition features works from the museum's collection by renowned artists such as Alexander Harmer, Ludmilla Welch, A.M. Podchernikoff, Charles Rollo Peters and Henry Chapman Ford. The artwork is displayed alongside historic photographs by J. Walter Collinge, N.H. Reed and others. The West Coast Chamber Orchestra will perform the 31st annual Bach by Candlelight Concert at 8 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, 305 E. Anapamu St. The program will feature several of Bach's works: "Air On the G String," Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor," the Little Fugue in G Minor and the Flute Concerto in E Minor with flute soloist Sheridon Stokes. Jetsy, who was born during last year's kitten season, is a friend to people and cats alike. She is spayed, litter-box trained and has had her shots, according to the shelter. One of my favorite birds of the spring is the western tanager. Starting in mid-April, these birds migrate north from their breeding grounds in Mexico and Central America to the higher elevations of the western U.S. where they breed. I like to call your attention to them in May because that is when they are the most numerous while in transition. By the end of May, they are mostly gone. More»
