A stabbing Wednesday evening at Santa Barbara City College left one person injured and police searching for those involved in the altercation, authorities said.

SBCC sent a Clery Act Timely Warning to the college community shortly after 5 p.m., stating that a person had been stabbed on campus.

SBCC canceled all classes and closed the campus “out of an abundance of caution.” Classes will resume on Thursday.

“At this time, we have received more information from SBPD indicating that the incident was specific to the victim and two suspects,” said Jordan Killebrew, spokesman for SBCC, in a statement. “Although SBPD is still looking for the suspects, we are assured there is no additional threat to students and employees (including faculty and staff) at this time.”

The college’s first of three messages said an altercation “resulting in a stab wound” took place at the Earth and Biological Sciences Building.

The first message, sent at 5:02 p.m., said the Santa Barbara Police Department was on scene and directing traffic to other locations. A second update was sent about 6:21 p.m.

Police were searching for suspects who were described only as wearing black pants. They were last seen headed toward the West Campus parking structure, authorities said.

“Please do not engage the individuals,” the Timely Warning stated. “If you have any information regarding the incident or the suspects please call 911, do not approach them.”

The Santa Barbara Police Department was not immediately available to comment on the incident. No additional information was provided.
