A Santa Barbara man was arrested after allegedly “brandishing an edged weapon” at Santa Barbara police officers on Friday.
The Santa Barbara Police Department responded to the 800 block of Shoreline Drive when an man allegedly verbally threatened the officers and waved an “edged weapon, “according to a news release from the Santa Barbara Police Department.
Police officers attempted to arrest the man, identified as John Michael Moore, 34, before he fled the scene toward a crowded area near Leadbetter Beach.
The Santa Barbara Fire Department and Harbor Patrol were also on scene to assist.
Moore ran into the ocean. Police then deployed sponge weapons on the Santa Barbara man.
Moore dropped his weapon shortly after being hit and was arrested without further incident. He was taken to Cottage Hospital for a medical evaluation before he was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.
