The real estate brokerage firm Goodwin & Thyne Properties is coming to an end after 22 years.
John Thyne confirmed to the News-Press rumors that had been circulating earlier in the week.
“After 22 years of partnership, John Thyne and Kevin Goodwin have decided to part ways,” Thyne told the News-Press. “We have different ideas of how best to serve our clients, and what directions to take the company in the future.”
The partnership will officially dissolve on Sept. 30. Employees were notified this week. Thyne called the split a “conscientious decoupling.”
Goodwin & Thyne is one of Santa Barbara’s most notable and prominent real estate firms. Goodwin also works as a CHP officer and Thyne doubles as an attorney. The company opened in 2004 and built a following and reputation against larger, more established companies.
They did business in the rental and sales markets, provided legal services, and market research.
Thyne said he and other agents at the firm plan to either open a new brokerage firm or move in-house “with an established brand.”
“We look forward to continuing our decades-long work family,” said Melani Guevarra, office manager.
Thyne called her “the nurturing soul of the group.”
The company does business in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Ojai Valley, the Central Coast and Los Angeles.
“Goodwin & Thyne Properties has been known as a local startup who defied the odds and succeeded in a competitive Santa Barbara real estate business.”
In a separate statement from Goodwin, he said he opening his own real estate brokerage as Goodwin Properties and that Thyne would move forward as Thyne Real Estate Group.
The statement said “We have had the privilege of representing countless clients throughout Santa Barbara, working alongside exceptional agents and staff, and building relationships that extend well beyond the business itself.”
The statement continued:
“As we make this transition, our commitment to our clients and agents remains unchanged. We will work together to ensure that this transition is handled with the same care and professionalism you have come to expect from us.”
