A racist social media post involving San Marcos students has circulated on TikTok and shaken up the high school campus.
San Marcos High School Principal Dare Holdren sent an email to students and parents informing them of “an incident involving a small group of students who shared a social media post that portrayed blackface.
“The racial stereotype was reported to the administration through our Safe to Speak Up system two weeks ago, and our administrative team responded promptly.”
The email was sent on Sept. 25. A copy of the email was obtained by the News-Press.
Sources told the News-Press that a San Marcos student posted a two-photo slideshow to TikTok that superimposed their face and other San Marcos students’ faces onto Black individuals’ bodies.
He added that the school has since contacted the offending students’ families, instituted consequences and are “working to educate the students about the impact of their actions.”
“As the image has continued to circulate among students and has affected members of our school community, we believe it is important to address it with our broader community as well,” Holdren said.
