To the Editor,
During my term as Supervisor, legal cannabis farming was still in the future. When the subject came up, I always suggested that our County wait until more is known about the physical and medical effects of marijuana. Unfortunately, our County subsequently rushed into legal planting and soon became what I understand to be the leading County in California of the formerly outlawed crop.
I still wonder why we so rapidly adopted such a measure, and now medical research appears to be condemning the now-legal use. Our community may well be suffering from this rush to judgement.
Has our County made an historic mistake? I think so.

Former Santa Barbara County Supervisor
