Daybreak newsletter logo

I want to take a moment to highlight some of the great things we are doing at the Santa Barbara News-Press. This is your nonprofit community news site, and we want to keep you up to date.

Engagement: Our growth is incredible. Every day we see big jumps in website readers, page views, unique visitors, newsletter subscriptions and social media views. We are working fast and hard to keep up with the demand and are grateful you’re reading and watching our work.

Every day someone says something to me on the street about how excited they are to see the News-Press return and that they are cheering for us.

Website: Our website is evolving. We will have more categories and more interactive features coming. We plan to increase the frequency of our newsletters so you can get your news directly into your inbox more frequently. We’ve noticed big jumps in traffic on our current newsletter days, Monday and Thursday.

Hiring: We are hiring two reporters, and we’ve heard from a lot of people who want to work for News-Press in service of our community. We have received several dozen applications already. You can find the job listings on LinkedIn. The jobs, which include health benefits, are open for another couple of weeks, but I plan to start interviews next week. Growing the newsroom is a key part of our strategy, and by the end of the year, we hope to have five full-time reporters along with our freelance team.

Participation: General Manager Will Belfiore recently attended the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce breakfast and officially joined the organization. Both of us are speaking at local community events and gatherings. This week, I spoke to an amazing crowd at the Santa Barbara North Rotary Club.

Send us an email at news@newspress.com if you want one of us to speak at a gathering. We love telling the story of the return of the News-Press and what it means to provide quality journalism to the community we grew up in.
