Good morning, Santa Barbara ☀️

Here’s what we have for you today:

  • Who will be the next mayor? It doesn’t matter for some residents fearful of the next ICE raid

  • City of Santa Barbara hopes to strengthen tenants’ eviction rights, but Just Cause Ordinance still needs work

  • Elderly woman, two dogs involved in crash on Highway 101 in Carpinteria

  • Don’t forget to vote! CalMatters CEO Neil Chase said this week to mail-in your ballot by Saturday to ensure that it is included in election totals on election night.

You can also walk your ballot in and drop it off at the polls on Election Day. The News-Press has the definitive voter guide for local elections (that’s not me projecting, that’s what I have been told) so check out our more than 1oo stories, podcasts and more on our website. Have a great weekend!

Happy Halloween

Have you made it out to Lane Farms in the Eastern Goleta Valley this year to check the pumpkins and the corn maze? It is a place for families, teens, school field trips, and just about anyone and everyone to enjoy a frolic to celebrate Halloween. Check out this story from 2006.

Staff field trip

The Santa Barbara News-Press editorial staff took a field trip this week to Lane Farms. We all ran the maze (no spoilers, but I wasn’t the last out). Aston Smith is putting together a video of the experience for the News-Press social media channels, so be sure to check out all the fun from our team-building experience. I have said it before and will say it again. I have never seen so much joy in a newsroom.
