Lemon Festival this weekend

It’s Goleta’s Super Bowl. Bigger than the drone show or a Sunday afternoon at Costco, the Goleta Lemon Festival hits this weekend at Girsh Park.
The event is hosted by the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce and draws more than 100,000 people over two days, Saturday the 26 and Sunday the 27. Some of the highlights include:
- The pie-eating contest begins at noon on both days. Make some noise at the tables and get selected by the celebrity judges. There’s a kids and adults contest.
- Check out the Classic Car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
- Vendors from local government agencies and nonprofit organizations will set up booths and tables with information and free swag.
- Across the way kids and teens can enjoy a variety of bounce houses and bungees, and other fun activities.
- Local bands Area 51 and The Goodlanders will close the days, Saturday and Sunday, respectively, at 4:45 p.m.
- The event takes place at Girsh Park in Goleta. And don’t forget to try the lemonade, which even with expected temperatures in the low 70s, should taste delicious.

Restaurant talk
The restaurant world is a bit bittersweet these days.

Kyle’s Kitchen: First, the good news. I received my text message alert on Thursday that Kyle’s Kitchen was officially open in the Target Center in Goleta. The popular family restaurant closed its doors earlier this year in the Hollister Village Shopping Center (Raising Cane’s is set to replace it).
It’s good to see Jay Ferro re-open Kyle’s Kitchen, one of the few affordable family restaurants around.

Pascucci: After a brave fight, Pascucci on the 1200 block of State Street finally closed its doors this week. Laura Knight is a downtown restaurant legend and more is in store, I am sure.
“We will be closed for a few weeks to remodel as we create a new restaurant concept with a vibrant, fresh, and exciting new menu, new decor, full bar (Frankie promises to return!), and lots of fun,” the company posted on Instagram.
They are also auctioning off their furniture.

Tap Thai: Another Goleta favorite, Tap Thai, is serving its last satay today.
“Our Goleta location will be closing as our lease comes to an end. We are incredibly grateful for your friendship and support over the years,” the company said on Instagram.
(And I am still reeling over Islands in La Cumbre Plaza closing!)
Happy Dolly Parton Day!
It’s 9/25 so take a listen to any of Dolly’s hits, including “9 to 5” or my favorite “Islands in the Stream.” She’s one of the few people that 99.9% of us can agree made the world a better place.
