It’s been a great first week.

Our new Sara Miller McCune News-Press Summer Fellows came out hot in their first week. Let’s start with Viviana Ruiz and Aston Smith.

The two scored a touchdown and the “W” with their exclusive interview with Los Angeles Rams star running back Kyren Williams, who appeared at Santa Barbara High School’s Peabody Stadium on Saturday.

FlexWork Sports brought the running back, along with wide receiver Puka Nacua, to coach youth athletes from the ages of 6-16.

Ruiz and Smith landed an interview with Williams. You can check out the coverage, including video of the interview, below.

Also, this week, Roman Trovato reported on a neighborhood dispute over new development on Bath Street.

The story, published Friday, was the most-read of the week.

The three Sara Miller McCune News-Press Summer Fellows are paid and each attended local high schools. Smith graduated from Dos Pueblos High School, Ruiz from Santa Barbara High and Trovato from San Marcos High School.

Three more will fellows start this week and next. We can’t wait!
