Ethan Hawke was honored with the American Riviera Award at Friday night’s installment of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Hawke, who rose to international stardom in the 1994 movie “Reality Bites,” gave an interview to Santa Barbara News-Press social media reporters Anika Brodnansky and Aston Smith.

“I am just trying to make my own life as interesting as possible,” Hawke told Brodnansky. “The great thing about acting is it is like a guided meditation. It takes you someplace in your imagination. Over the years it collects. I feel like I have traveled a lot in my mind.”

On stage at the end of his speech at the Arlington he said, “I like ice where it belongs. In my drink.”
