Second District Santa Barbara County Supervisor Laura Capps was headed toward re-election, as of 10:30 p.m. election results Tuesday night.
Capps led with 75.6% and her opponent Elijah Mack received 24%. The results include mail-in ballots and polls.
Capps, a former member of the Santa Barbara Unified School District board of Trustees, was first elected in 2022.
“I am honored to represent this amazing community—my hometown that gave me so much,” Capps told the News-Press. “We’re tackling challenges head on, like affordable housing and climate change by bringing people together to find solutions.
“We’re showing what’s possible when we come together, in stark contrast to the divisiveness of our national politics. I couldn’t be prouder,” Capps said.
In other election results, Kyle Slattery with leading Betsy Schaffer with 51.39% of the vote in the race for Santa Barbara County Auditor-Controller.
Schaffer, the incumbent, had 48.29% of the vote.
In Santa Barbara, Measure A was headed for victory with 67% of the vote. The opposition was at 33% of the vote. The measure would allow Santa Barbara to enter 99-year leases with its tenants, rather than the previous limit of only 50 years.
In Lompoc, Measure B was headed toward defeat with 53.19% opposing and 46.81% in support. Measure B would create a half-cent special sales tax that would raise about $3.8 million to fund streets, and road repairs.
In the 37th District Assembly race, incumbent Gregg Hart was winning with 60.6% of the vote. Challenger Sari Domingues had 39.3% of the vote.
In the race for the 24th Congressional District, Democratic incumbent Salud Carbajal was leading Bob Smith. Carbajal had 54.1% of the vote. Republican Bob Smith had 38.5% of the vote. Carbajal and Smith will compete in the runoff in November.
Thomas Adams Jr. was slightly ahead of challenger Luis Esparza in the race for Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge. Adams had 50.7% of the vote and Esparza had 48.9%, as of 10:30 p.m.
