The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors in a 5-0 vote on Tuesday approved the hiring of Jana Petersen as the new county executive officer.

Petersen, the outgoing administrator of Boulder County, Colo., will earn $380,000 a year guiding financial and long-range planning and overseeing the sprawling county government, which has 22 departments and more than 4,700 employees.

The county in May announced that she was expected to be hired. Her first day on the job will be Aug. 20.

Outgoing CEO Mona Miyasato will retire this summer after nearly 13 years in the position.

In the same vote Tuesday, the board gave County Counsel Rachel Van Mullem a nearly 5% performance-based raise, bringing her annual salary to $341,833.
