Staples is shuttering its doors in Goleta—the superstore’s only location in Santa Barbara County—in late August, sources told the News-Press.
Staples is located at 7015 Market Place Drive in the Camino Real Marketplace. The office supplies and stationary store neighbors Isla Vista, where around 13,000 UC Santa Barbara students live. The store is also close to Dos Pueblos High School.
A Reddit post said on Tuesday that a customer received an email that said Staples is closing its Goleta location in August.
Staples did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment on why it’s closing its Goleta location.
Mark Ingalls, general property manager for the Camino Real Marketplace, did not immediately respond in time to a request for comment on future plans for the space.
Staples closed its previous location at 410 State Street in 2018.
The store’s closure comes as the office supplies industry sees a broader decline as people shift toward online retail. In 2024, global sales revenue in the office supplies industry was projected to decline by 4.9%, according to market research firm Circana.
