Story poles for a new medical clinic are turning heads in Goleta.

The two-story medical center, located at 6975 Santa Felicia Drive, will house a local provider of wellness and medical services. The site is next to Santa Barbara County Fire Station 11 and Ice in Paradise, and near the Camino Real Marketplace.

“It’ll serve a public benefit,” said Goleta City Councilmember Stuart Kasdin, whose district encompasses the property in Southwest Goleta.

“Our area in general has a terrific amount of healthcare facilities, but in this specific area, I don’t think there is an abundance,” Kasdin said.

The building has a floor area of 39,770 square feet, including a 1,230 square-foot daycare and 1,500 square-foot outdoor play area for future employees’ children. The site is also proposed to have 253 parking spaces and 11 electrical vehicle charging stations.

The maximum height of the building is 39 feet.

Goleta’s Design Review Board will review updates to the building design on July 28. The applicant is Wynmark Company. Mark Linehan, president of Wynmark Company, said in an emailed statement that many potential tenants have shown interest, but he did not specify what provider might take up the space.

Other medical facilities nearby include UCLA Health Goleta Primary and Specialty Care, Cottage Urgent Care in Hollister Village Plaza, the Goleta Neighborhood Clinic, and the Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital.

The Goleta City Council approved a version of the project including two separate buildings in 2023. However, Wynmark Company proposed to combine the two buildings into one facility for convenience, said Kimberly Schizas, a project planner for Wynmark Company.

“It was really inefficient to have doctors running across the dry aisle from building to building, nurses from building to building,” Schizas said.

As the review process goes forward, Councilmember Kasdin said residents should voice any positive or negative feedback about the project.

“I’m happy to see the project go forward smoothly,” Kasdin said. “I’d like the opportunity for the process to work where the public gets to weigh in and respond if they have concerns.”

The medical clinic is among the several new developments in the area, including Rori’s Artisanal Creamery near Target in the Camino Real Marketplace. Raising Cane’s, Urbane Cafe and El Pollo Loco are also coming to Hollister Village Plaza.
