From musical guests to hundreds of food vendors and a plethora of rides, the Ventura County Fair is making its way back to the Ventura County Fairgrounds for another year, starting July 29.
Before the fair’s 12-day event, carnival operators have begun setting up rides, which can already be seen at the fairgrounds.
Whether it’s the tall ferris wheel or fan favorite the zipper and this year’s new splash ride, there are activities and rides for everyone.
To get into the fair, the general admission cost until July 28 is $13.45 for seniors, $18.95 for adults and $13.45 for children ages 6 to 12.
A presale wristband price for rides is $45 and will be $60 starting July 29 when the fair begins.
The fair will have seven special promotion days where many can pay less to get in or for free depending on the special day.
Some of the promotions are “$5 Before 5 p.m.” on opening day, where general admission is only $5 before 5 p.m. There’s “Youth Day” on July 31 where children 12 and under get in for free with an adult present. Then a “Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Day” on Aug. 4, where it’s free admission for seniors and people with disabilities.
It was also announced that there will be eight musical performances this year in collaboration with the Chumash Casino Resort.
Some performances include prominent artists Marshmello, Iration and Ashanti.

- Wednesday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m.: (Opening Day) Bush
- Thursday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.: Marshmello
- Friday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m.: Iration
- Saturday, Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m.: Jake Owen
- Sunday, Aug. 2 at 3 p.m.: Herencia de Patrones ft. Banda Maguey and Banda Toro
- Monday, Aug. 3 at 7:30 p.m.: Ashanti ft. Bow Wow
- Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 7:30 p.m.: Switchfoot ft. Hoobastank
- Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m.: Nate Smith
However, there is one change to the fair this year, which includes an implemented clear bag policy for attendees.
Some approved bags include clear plastic, PVC or vinyl bags that don’t exceed 12 x 6 x 12 inches, clear purses or fanny packs, medical bags, diaper bags when accompanied by a child and small clutch bags no bigger than 5 x 8 inches.
More bags or items that aren’t or are allowed can be found on the Ventura County Fair website.
Another activity at the fair is the Flying U Rodeo. The rodeo will take place during the last week of the fair on Aug. 7, 8 and 9 with five shows.
Attendees do need to pay a separate fee to get inside the rodeo, with ticket costs ranging from $11.45 for ages 13 and up and $9.29 for children ages 3 to 12.
With the fair drawing hundreds to thousands to the showgrounds, there are events and things to do for anyone of a wide variety of ages.
The fair will conclude its rides and activities on Aug. 9.
