UC Santa Barbara will guarantee incoming freshmen and transfer students housing on campus after their first year.
The two-year housing guarantee will start this fall, offering both incoming freshman and first-year transfer students housing into their second year at San Benito and East Campus — two new housing projects that are currently under construction.
“[The] goal is to accommodate for those willing to be on campus,” said Kiki Reyes, spokesperson for UCSB.
UCSB is now among the majority of campuses in the University of California system that offer two-year guaranteed housing for first-year students. Campuses like UC Santa Cruz and UC San Diego also offer the two-year guarantee for both freshman and transfer students, while other UC campuses only offer the guarantee to freshmen.
The university’s admissions office announced the guarantee for first-year students over social media in June.
Students at UCSB who meet housing deadlines and enrollment requirements will be guaranteed two-year housing, according to the university’s social media.
Construction for San Benito housing is scheduled to be finished by fall 2027, located off Henry T. Yang Drive near Harder Stadium.
Meanwhile, East Campus is projected to be done by fall 2028 on the east side of UCSB’s main campus.
“We have enough housing for everyone,” Reyes said. “But we want to build more.”
