An extraordinary gathering of flamenco artists from Spain and the United States comes together in Santa Barbara on Thursday, September 10, for Convivencias at Tablao Museo, presented by acclaimed flamenco artist and artistic director María Bermúdez.
Set beneath the stars in the historic courtyard of the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, Convivencias brings together an exceptional group of musicians, singers and dancers for an intimate evening celebrating the artistry, traditions and community spirit of flamenco.
Inspired by the spirit of convivencia—the Spanish concept of coexistence and community—the production explores flamenco as a living art form built upon connection: between singer and guitarist, musician and dancer, artist and audience, and one generation and the next.
At the heart of the evening is a remarkable gathering of artists with deep roots in Jerez de la Frontera, one of flamenco’s most important cultural centers. Acclaimed flutist Juan Parrilla, violinist Bernardo Parrilla and guitarist Manu Hernandez represent one of Jerez’s legendary flamenco families and bring a musical lineage steeped in the traditions of Andalusia.
They will be joined by internationally celebrated singers Carmen Grilo and Ismael Fernández, renowned guitarist Andres Vadin and percussionist Diego Alvarez.
The evening’s featured dancers include Nino de los Reyes, Timo Nuñez, Sabrina Ibarra, Talia Vestal, Ysabella Yturralde and María Bermúdez, bringing together distinctive voices and generations of flamenco artistry.
“Convivencias is about what happens when extraordinary artists come together and truly listen to one another,” said Bermúdez. “Flamenco has always been about community.”
The ensemble will also perform at The Ford in Los Angeles two days later.

María Bermúdez, Artistic Director
María Bermúdez was officially named Flamenco Ambassador by the City of Jerez de la Frontera in 2022, recognizing an inspired artistic trajectory that began in the 1990s. Her critically acclaimed performances have graced prestigious stages throughout Spain, North America, and around the world, including the Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center, Festival de Beaucaire in France, and Palácio das Artes in Brazil. Her notable guest appearances include the Australian Guitar Festival dedicated to Paco de Lucía, and Jerez’s legendary 52ª Fiesta de la Bulería. Most recently, Bermúdez served as artistic director and performer twice for two unprecedented shows, Fiesta de la Bulería at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Her lifelong flamenco journey and career were chronicled in the award-winning documentary “Streets of Flamenco.”
