I was living in a Boston suburb with my two preteen sons and on my way to an event when I heard the radio announcement of the first plane hitting the WTC. I immediately turned around and headed to my sons’ school to find children already being released by teachers to waiting parents.
The rest of the day brought more horrific news, including that many from our town had been on the first plane. Trying to make sense of what had occurred while maintaining some level of calm for my children was what I did for the next few weeks. There is no doubt that 9/11 was one of the events which marked my children’s childhood, just as the assassination of President Kennedy had marked mine.
