Bob Smith, a candidate for the 24th Congressional District, has abruptly dropped the Republican Party and is now registered as an Independent, in his quest to unseat incumbent Salud Carbajal.
“I haven’t changed any of my positions,” Smith said. “I’m not changing how I think about anything. I’m not changing how I operate. I haven’t changed anything like that. I just want to be one of the people who stops this model of complete division in our country where things just can’t get done, to, you know, bringing things back to to compromise unity and getting things done.”
Smith opens up about his campaign in the latest episode of the podcast Santa Barbara Talks with Josh Molina.
Smith reveals his views on a variety of issues, including energy policy, immigration, education, Space X, fire prevention, and other topics.
Smith also shares his views on Carbajal and his performance as a member of Congress.
“I think that Congressman Carbajal’s record in Congress has has been pretty much invisible,” Smith said.
“He’s not leading national policy,” Smith said. “He’s not a person pushing, you know, big major bills through. He’s got one piece of authored legislation through to law, and that’s the plaque on the post office of Santa Maria, dedicating that to the old mayor.”
