Shrunken Heads Production Company, with support from the UC Santa Barbara Department of Music, presents A Legacy of Stone, an original student-written musical, with music, lyrics, and book by Cameron Hastings. This production is Shrunken Heads’ first fall quarter intensive, and includes a live UCSB student orchestra, enchanting performance & dance, and an Ancient Greece-themed Gala at the UCSB Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall.
A Legacy of Stone tells the story of Medusa, a legend of Greek mythology, in her humble beginnings as a priestess of Athena. She finds herself falling in love with Vasilias, a man who keeps his cards close to his chest, against Athena’s counsel. A centuries-long feud re-ignites, and Medusa is challenged with balancing devotion, autonomy, and perseverance, which begs the question: can you discover power through pain and loss?
Featuring captivating dance numbers, standout performances, and original music and lyrics written by Shrunken Heads’ Music Director Cameron Hastings, brought to life by a live orchestra performed by UCSB student musicians. Shrunken Heads Production Company presents an entirely student-run production showcasing exceptional student performers & musicians alongside a dedicated creative, musical, and production team, delivering an exhilarating, thought-provoking musical and theatrical experience.
A Legacy of Stone contains mature themes, intense subject matter, and theatrical effects that may distress some audience members. Violence, sexual assault, explicit language, and pregnancy will be depicted on stage. This show is not recommended for younger audiences.
