Today we point you to the many new features you can now find at newspress.com
The changes are designed to highlight our content, including categories for housing, immigration and environment. You’ll also see sections for “City Hall” and “State Street.” As we expand our team in the coming months, we will add North County.
We are excited about our site’s video offerings, which highlight our social media reels. You can find all of our videos easily on our website, as well as our social media channels, including Instagram and YouTube.
You’ll notice the triumphant return of our “Voices” section, home for your letters, op-eds and guest columns. We invite you to send your submissions to editor@newspress.com. The News-Press is also home to free obituaries. We want to be a place where your loved ones continue to be honored and remembered.
The News-Press is currently home to two podcasts. The first is Santa Barbara Talks with Josh Molina, a podcast I started in 2020, and moved to video in 2021. The podcast has more than 200 episodes with compelling interviews and conversations with our community’s most interesting people.
I am thrilled to share that the second podcast is Newsmakers with JR, hosted by Jerry Roberts, former editor of the Santa Barbara News-Press. Jerry is a pillar of journalism both locally and across the nation and a man I look up to. His weekly show interviews local journalists, and he speaks with various community leaders about politics and policy.
Today we are also excited to bring you an in-depth story from Tom Schultz about SpaceX and the rocket launches at Vandenberg Air Force Base. This story is a win on many levels. Schultz is a former colleague of mine from the Santa Barbara City College newspaper, The Channels, as well as the Santa Barbara News-Press in the early 2000s.
Schultz was one of the heroes who stood with the Teamsters union in his fight for editorial integrity at the former News-Press. It’s a pleasure to work with him again, and he proves his journalism chops are still strong with this story.
